Lowell Thomas Olson, 78, while in the care of his wife, Ruth, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on September 11, 2009, how fitting, “A Day of Heroes”. He was born July 24,1931 in Ludington, MI. to Herman and Esther (Magnuson) Olson. He grew up in Ludington and graduated from Ludington High School in 1949. He sailed Lake Michigan with the C & O Carferries after graduating from LHS. In 1951 he joined the Navy and attended Great Lakes Naval Academy. Served on the USS Franklin D Roosevelt (Rosie) from 1951 – 1954, from 1954 – 1955 on the USS Princeton. Upon discharge he returned to the C&O Carferries, while attending Trinity College (Trinity International University) in Chicago.
Lowell met Ruth Marie Lundeen in 1957 and married her on June 13, 1959, at Central Free Church in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated in 1960 with a BA in Missions and a teaching certificate from Trinity College. Lowell taught at Carl Sandburg Elementary in Wheeling, IL from 1960 – 1963. During those years he and his wife Ruth helped in Our Savior EFC church plant of in Wheeling, IL. They felt a call to Missions and were commissioned by the Evangelical Free Church of America from August 1964 to June 1996. They served the Lord together in Venezuela. Their ministry included school teacher and Principal, planting and pastoring churches, building relationships, radio outreach, Seminary and Missions administrator, Dorm and Orphanage parents, Jungle Missions in Majwana, Awana, taught Theological Education by Extension courses, and just walked their faith. Upon retirement he served at his home church, Trinity EFC, with the Prime timers, Missions, Elder, Operation Christmas Child, Awana and also on the board for Youth For Christ.
He will be missed by his wife of 50 years, Ruth; daughter Marcia Easley of MN; Sons Mark (Tammy) Olson of IL, and Marlan (Mercedes) Olson of Spain; Brother Donald (Sally) Olson of AZ.; grandkids Kenneth, Thomas, Benjamin, Erin, and Amber; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Byron (Audrey) Lundeen, Jim (Bonnie) Lundeen, and Diane (Tom) Axelson; Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, extended family, and church families. Lowell’s Missionary Family and Venezuelan family, whom he labored together with for 32+ years, will miss him also.
His legacy: God is at work around me and wants to build a loving relationship with me as He invites me to become involved in His work. God speaks to me through His Word, prayer, the Holy Spirit, circumstances, and the church. As crisis of belief cause my faith and actions to adjust and as I obey, His work is revealed through me.

Lowell Thomas Olson, de 78 años, fue a morar con su Señor y Salvador el viernes 11 de septiembre de 2009 mientras era cuidado por su amada esposa, Ruth. Fue un día apropiado, pensó ella “Un Día de Héroes”. El nació el 24 de julio de 1931 en Ludington, Michigan sus padres fueron Herman Olson y Esther Magnuson de Olson. El creció en Ludington y se graduó en la Escuela Secundaria del pueblo en 1949. Después de su graduación de secundaria navego el Lago Michigan en las naves de la C&O Carferries.
